NCMM Parleys Edo State Government 

As part of ongoing efforts to reposition the museum,and ensure it takes its pride of place in the nation’s cultural sector, the Acting DG NCMM, Alhaji Abdulkerim Oshioke Kadiri,accompanied by top management staff of the commission, paid a courtesy visit to the Edo state Governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House in Edo state.

The visit, which was a follow-up to the state government’s invitation, culminated to the Governor giving assurances that the state government is favourably disposed to resolving all underlying issues of the past; partnering with the commission as regards specific developmental projects,as well as strengthening relations with the commission. The Ag. DG was accompanied by Mr Aliyu Abdu, DMHS, Mrs Edith O.Ekunke Ag DM, Barrister Tunde Adebiyi, Head of Legal Services and Mr Theophilus Umogbai, Curator Benin Museum.

Update on NCMM / IAM Affiliation with University of Jos

the Institute of Archaeology and Museum Studies Jos played host to a five-man inspection team led by prof. Joseph Mangut from the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies Jos to inspect the facilities on ground at the Institute as a requirement for affiliation and approval for the award of Post Graduate Diploma in field Archaeology and Museology. With all the presentations so far made by the Institute, there are indications that the Institute will start awarding a post Graduate Diploma Certificate in Field Archaeology and Museology anytime soon. The Ag. DG was represented at the event by the Director of Research, planning and Publications, Mallam Jafaaru Dauda Inusa and the Ag. Director of Education Services and Training , Dr. Mrs. Carol Ezeokeke.

National Museum Owerri celebrates New yam festival with His Royal Highness Igwe Ezekwesili (ofemili 1 of ofemili)at Awba Ofemili, in Awka North Anambra State_ OCT 27 2018

National Museum Owerri in association with National Museum Society of Nigeria joined His Royal Highness Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna and the entire people of Awba Ofemili in Awka North LGA, Anambra State, to celebrate the IGWE’S NEW YAM Festival 2018,.

The event was held to mark the beginning of harvest for the people of Awba Ofemili community.
Yam harvest is celebrated as an important aspect of Igbo Heritage, the youths, women and children were in groups alongside the men carrying their harvest to the Igwe’s palace for blessings, and to mark the beginning of a new year in the community’s calender.

The Ag Curator National Museum Owerri, Mrs. Agbamuche Carol who spoke on the occasion expressed the Ag DG National Commission for Museums and Monuments felicitation at the event. She further advised on the need for the community to liaise with the museum to identify, document, conserve and protect monuments found within the community, from the rich rice agricultural Heritage to the Ofemili River. She informed them of the potentials and sustainable tourism and economic development it will attract.

The president National Museum Society of Nigeria Prince Ngoka C. D . Mfr. On behalf of the association presented the Igwe with gift items, like beads among others. The staff of the National Museum Owerri were totally represented at the event.

Rediscover Nigeria Heritage Bikers Tour

Our nation Nigeria is currently experiencing a rebirth with the advent of democracy; the foundation of Nigeria’s transformation towards becoming one of the world 20 greatest economies by the year 2020 is being consolidated. This project is geared towards shedding spotlight on Nigeria by selecting bikers from different continents to tour the designated heritage and tourist sites in the states of Nigeria.

How does it work?

After the flag off of the event on the 23rd October, 2018, the Bikers and the Heritage team will leave in a convoy for some selected states of the country ear marked for the two weeks event.

How can I Join-in?

The Tour will flag off from Abuja to Minna and then Lokoja to Awka to Calabar en-rooting Port Harcourt. It will also pass through Yenagoa to Benin to Akure and Osogbo, then faces Abeokuta to Lagos and finally back to Abuja.


Abdulkerim Kadiri was elevated to post of Acting Director General on August 16, 2018, after the retirement of the former Ag. Director-General.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Commission’s Director of Finance and Account.

In 1983, Abdulkerim obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from Auchi Polytechnic and an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Benin in 1998. He is a Member of the: Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN); Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accounts (CIPFA).

He is an authority in Public Sector Accounting and Auditing, Taxation, Treasury, Valuation, Mergers & Amalgamations etc. His result-oriented approach ensures that clients benefit from his vast arrays of efficient financial solutions.
